My Background

I am very proud to be a part of the Grand Prairie School District and being a Jackson Eagle!  I am originally from New York (yes, I’m a NY Giants fan! don’t hold it against me!), and grew up in Grapevine, TX (1988 graduate of GHS!). I have no children but 3 wonderful nephews (ranging in age from 20 to 9), a step niece and 2 adorable great nephews. I graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State in San Marcos) in 1992 with a BS in Psychology.  Previous to my public school career, I was in the IT industry for 13 years. I worked in Marketing for Dell Inc. (in Austin) for 7 years and AST Computer for 5 years as well as other smaller companies. I feel so fortunate to have been given the opportunity to experience the business world and I know that it prepared me to be a better English teacher.  I began teaching in 2006 and now cannot imagine myself doing anything else. I love the students and I take my responsibilities to them very seriously.  My goal is for every student to reach the highest level of success they are capable of and truly believe that it is MY responsibility to help them do so.  I have an open door policy when it comes to classroom visits (please stop by the office and obtain a visitors pass first).  I will not take instructional time away from the students for a conference but you are welcome to observe my class.  Please call, email, or send a note to schedule a conference time.  My email address is sandy.ormerod@gpisd.org. I look forward to meeting you throughout the year and helping your child be the best that they can be!
