Opening Procedures

Students will come in and begin the warm-up for that day (usually this will be on the overhead).  Warm-ups will be given a grade based on completeness; this includes the amount of talking instead of working, and will equal 1 daily grade per week.

Any student who has been absent needs to check the hanging file for any graded papers, the calendar for missed assignments, and the handout bins for any information missed.  It is your responsibility to keep up with missed assignments and materials.  Please do not ask me during instructional time what you missed.  All the information is available for you to find out.  I DO check roll and mark tardies!

Out-of-Seat/Tardy Procedures

Once the bell begins ringing all students will be in their assigned seats.  All students will sit in his/her assigned seat everyday.  Any student not in his/her assigned seat when the bell begins to ring will be marked tardy.  All students must obtain permission before leaving his/her seat for ANY reason.  Pencil sharpening, throwing away trash, or any other maintenance activity should be completed prior to class.  Infractions of this procedure will result in the student remaining after the bell rings.  When a student is required to remain in class after the others have been dismissed, I will release him/her within a few minutes in order for them to reach the next period’s class.  This will allow students to get to class without being tardy, but not allow socialization time.

Out-of-Room Procedures

Students will remain in the class unless they obtain a hall pass from the teacher.  This includes bathroom, illness, drinks, or anything else that would require leaving the room.  If a student feels he/she needs to leave, raise you hand and wait to be recognized by the teacher.  Don’t plan on getting a pass to go anywhere!  Fifty-five minutes is not long enough to have a bathroom break with the exception of some medical conditions.  Only emergencies constitute a hall pass.  I DECIDE WHAT CONSTITUTES AN EMERGENCY.  The nurses have set the guidelines that only, vomiting, blood, or passing out require a visit to the nurses office unless doctor’s orders require otherwise.  A note must be given to the teacher with specific doctor’s orders.  Any student leaving the room without permission will be given an office referral.  One pass may be “bought” per six weeks.  This will be explained later (see Mrs. Getty’s Greenbacks)

Material and Equipment Procedures

All students will bring to class a blue or black pen (NO PENCIL), notebook with paper, his/her book, and brain!  If a student fails to have the supplies needed a “fine” will be assessed (see Mrs. Getty’s Greenbacks).  I keep pens in my classroom for the students to purchase should the need arise.  I do not sell them for a profit, just for what they cost me. (rounded off) Students will refrain from taking things or using the supplies on the teacher’s desk without asking permission.  I cannot take you off as a dependent on my taxes; therefore, I will not provide you with supplies.

Please Bring Tissue if needed, the custodial staff will not provide these for us.  No hall passes will be written for tissue.  I will give a homework pass to any student who brings two full-size boxes of tissue within the first two weeks of school.

Assignment Procedures

All papers handed in must have the proper heading; if the heading is non-existent the student will receive a zero for that assignment.  I am not a detective and will not investigate the owner of an assignment.  If the heading is incomplete 20 points will be subtracted from the grade.  An example of the heading is provided below. All work must be written in blue or black pen on a piece of lose leaf notebook paper, not spiral.  The heading is to be placed in the upper right hand corner of the paper.

ELA 7-3 (or whatever period you are in)

Grading Procedures

As per district policy, all tests will count 50%, projects will always be two test grades, and daily work will count 50%.

Late work

Late work is not accepted with the exception of a few projects which will be announced.  As per district policy I will drop a minimum of two grades each six weeks.  Students are given one day for every day the have an excused absent, beginning the day after the first day back.  Students are responsible for getting make-up work, notes, etc…

Tutorials

Scheduled tutoring time is Tuesday 4:00 - 4:30 or Wednesday 8:15 - 8:45.  Please let me know in advance if you will be attending tutoring when at all possible.  Should you fail to show for a scheduled tutorial, you will be required to come when it is convenient for me!  Do not sign up if you cannot attend.  As I have a seven year old, I prefer to leave school before dark when possible.

Ending the Period

Once the teacher indicates, and not before, the students will begin putting away work and supplies.  Students will also pick up any trash (whether it is theirs or not) to be discard as leaving.  I will dismiss you, not the bell!  No one will be released until classroom resources are put away, everyone is in his/her seat, and the trash is picked up. Any student failing to follow this procedure will stay the next class period after the other students are dismissed.

Perfumes and Lotions

Students will refrain from putting on lotion or perfume in the classroom.  Many people have allergies and this is simply a common curtesy.
