6th
Grade Theatre Arts
This
course is designed for the student who has an interest in
acting. This course will explore the different types of
theatre performance including pantomime, improvisation,
and acting for the stage. In addition, the students will
be introduced to pre-UIL performance. This is a year long
course.
7th
and 8th Grade Theatre Arts
This
is a year long course dedicated to students who have an
interest in acting and technical theatre. This course will
explore many different styles of performance including pantomime,
improvisation, and acting for the stage. Students will be
introduces to technical theatre, such as make up, costumes,
set design, and prop making. In addition, the students will
be introduced to pre-UIL performance: prose reading, poetry
reading, duet acting, humorous interpretation, etc.

This
class is for the 7th and 8th graders who plan to pursue
theatre in High School. It is by audition only. Advanced
stage terminology, scenery, make-up, characterization, and
stage movements are studied. Students in the Competition
Drama class are required to go to various speech tournaments
throughout the school year. Students must participate in
plays produced for UIL competition, PTA, and other seasonal
activities. Students are expected to maintain a passing
grade in all of their classes to ensure eligibility. Students
will occasionally be required to leave campus in order to
perform for various groups.
