MY LAST SKIRT: THE STORY OF JENNIE HODGERS, UNION SOLDIER
by Lynda Durrant

I am going to tell you about a story called “My Last Skirt”. To me it is a very good story. It has drama, adventure, and a little bit of romance. There is this girl named Jennie and she decided she wants to go to war to fight for her freedom during the Civil War. A lot of people try to tell her not to go but she goes any way. On her way there, there was a boy named Albert. She doesn’t know if she likes the guy yet but she can test him out. They hate each other at the beginning of the book. They had found out that they had to work together at the front of the squad. They HAVE to get to know each other cause they have to work together as a team. Remember the saying “There’s No I In Team”. That’s what they had remembered. They hung out for a couple of days and I think they fell in love. They moved to a small little village and lived there because that’s where most of the battles were. They would have to travel a long way if they didn’t move there. While she was fighting, Jennie would wear special skirt that her great grandma made for her when she was a little girl. She knew she was going to be in the war. So she put on her skirt and went to battle. If you want to hear what happens when she’s at the war and if she goes back, you have to read the book. It is an awesome book to read.  I PROMISE. It is an awesome book. Just read it.

Sincerely,
Graciella Chapas
