STAR STUDENT REVIEWS

THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX
by Kate DiCamillo

There is a mouse that loved a human princess and the town found out and sent him to the dungeon. My feeling toward the story is sad and exciting on what was going to happen next. my surprising scene is when he was fighting the rat for the princess because the rat tricked the servant girl to take the princess to the dungeon. Why this happened is the rat had accidentally killed the queen and the princess gave him a dirty look, so he tricked the servant girl into kidnapping the princess so he could kill her and Despereaux is trying to save her from getting killed. The difference between the world in the book and ours? Mice ca'nt talk or read.
The writer kind of makes me believe the characters are real because Despereaux is kind of like a knight tyring to save the princess. There are two characters that are different -- the princess and Despereaux, why I say that is the princess is a human and Desperaeux is a mouse but they are very kind. The book is like an adventure, mystery, romance therefore there is a lot of excitement. You're always wondering what is going to happen next, and it's romantic because he is in love with the princess. The story is set in the eighteen hundreds. Despereaux is a very brave mouse because he was sent to the dark dungeon because he was at the foot of the king, and he had to fight the rat to save the princess. Despereaux's weakness is his love toward the princess.
